General Questions:

Can I take mobile tests on my iPhone or iPad if I have iOS 9 installed?

Yes.  You can complete webcam tests using iOS 9 or any other iOS or Android Operating System.

If you want to take tests directly on your mobile device using the UserTesting Mobile App, please read these iOS and Android articles to find out how to get started.

I have multiple devices, can I test on all of them?

Yes!  You can test with any device that meets the requirements stated in the test.  Make sure that your My Profile tab on your dashboard is up-to-date and reflects the current devices that you can test on.

Carefully read the requirements before taking a test that requires a specific device.  If you complete a test when you don't meet requirements, it will be a waste of your time as well as the client's.  You won't get paid and you'll get a 1-star rating.

I cracked my screen, can I still do tests with this device?

You should be fine to do tests with a cracked screen, because clients want to see how users navigate their site or app in real-life situations.

But, if you find that the cracked screen interferes with your ability to read or navigate a site, please Quit the test by closing the screen recorder. Hope you can get your screen fixed soon!

I see tests that look similar to mobile tests I’ve done already.

No, not unless the button on your dashboard says, "View Your Test".  Although this shouldn't happen often, you may see a test on your dashboard that you've already completed before.  If you think that you've already completed a similar test, please QUIT.  It won't be useful for the client to receive feedback twice from the same tester and you won't get paid.  Feel free to contact support if you're unsure!

Can I practice using the webcam before I take my first webcam test?

Yes. You should see a sample mobile test on your dashboard. You won't be paid for this practice test because it's meant to help you get familiar with using the webcam.

I received a scary message that said "Untrusted Enterprise Developer" while downloading an iOS app to test. What does this mean?

If an app isn't in the App Store and you've never downloaded it before, you'll be prompted to go through a few screens on your mobile device to trust the app.  This is something new that Apple introduced as of iOS 9.  Click here to learn more.

Technical Questions:

I cannot launch the screen recorder.

Please uninstall the screen recorder and reboot your computer.  Here's a FAQ with more information.

I click start recording and nothing happens.

If you have the webcam plugged in, unplug and plug back in before trying again.

I can’t get the video feed to come up on the webcam.

If you have installed the software that came with the webcam, please uninstall it, unplug the webcam, reboot, plug the webcam back in, and try the test again. In addition, make sure the webcam is not in use by any other programs, such as Skype.

The webcam won’t turn on.

Try unplugging it, rebooting your computer, plugging it back in, and trying again.

The video feed is upside down.

The webcam is in the wrong position. It should be on the other side of your device. Your device should be placed between you and the webcam.

I am having a hard time framing all of my large tablet in the video feed.

You can prop the webcam on a book to gain enough space to get the entire screen within the video feed easily. Please ensure that just the widest edges of your device are at the edge of the video image and it's squared up and in focus. See: http://screencast.com/t/ppHxbRvnr38
