Our UserTesting app allows you to view and take tests directly from your Android device.  No computer or webcam necessary.  This article will help you get started with taking tests on your Android device, and hopefully will answer any questions you might have!

Q. What are the requirements for running the UserTesting app on Android?

A.  Our app runs on most Android devices. You must have Android 5.0 or higher, 400MB of free space when you try to take a test, and at least 20% battery life.  To avoid upload problems, we strongly recommend that you connect to a Wi-Fi network when you upload your completed test.  Wi-Fi is faster and more reliable.

Q. How can I take a test using the UserTesting app for Android?

A. Follow these 3 simple steps to download and install the UserTesting app:

1. Tap this link on your Android device or visit usertesting.com/app.

2. Once downloaded, tap on the UserTesting_Dashboard.apk file to open it.  You'll then be prompted to allow the app to install on your device.

You can open the file from your downloads folder on your device.  If you have antivirus apps installed on your device, it may affect the installation.  To avoid this, try opening the .apk with your antivirus program instead of the Android Package Installer.

3.  Finally, you'll then be shown a list of permissions the app needs access to in order to work on your device.  Click here to find out why we request them.  Tap Install to complete the installation.

You're now ready to start testing!  Sign into your mobile dashboard using the same email and password that you use to sign into your computer dashboard.

The app will default to the "Tests for This Device" view (seen below), which will only show tests you can take on your device. Don’t expect many tests on your device at first.  You can also decline tests that require a computer from the “Tests for Other Device” view.

Q. I got a test on my computer dashboard that says I have to use the UserTesting app to take it.  What does that mean?

A. These tests can only be taken on a mobile device with the UserTesting app. To take the test, install the app on your mobile device and log in.  The test will display on your mobile dashboard.

Q. How much will I be paid for tests that I complete with the UserTesting app?

A. Payment for a 15-20 minute recording is $10.  Why is this less than mobile webcam tests? We offer the additional $5 because webcam tests require more setup and in-test adjustments.

Q. How do I navigate between the app and the site being tested while recording?

A. It's as easy as a tap of a button!  Use the Task Buttons to navigate between the tasks and the test website or app.  Tap "-" to hide the task and view the test website or app.  Tap "+" to view the task again.  You can also drag the button around the screen if it's blocking something that you need to see.

Q. I accidentally exited the test, how do I get back into the app?

A. You can return to the test by tapping the red task button.  This will bring you back to the tasks.  If your test website or app doesn't appear, you'll need to open your web browser or the test app from your apps menu.  Below is a message you may see if you accidentally exit a test before you're finished.
