Some tests may require you to share your camera while answering questions. Depending on the test, you could be asked to share your front-facing camera so that the customer can see your expressions and reactions during a test, or you could be asked to share your rear-facing camera to show how you use a product in the real world.
Before you take one of these tests, you should see a screener asking if you feel comfortable sharing your camera. If you do not feel comfortable doing so, please do not accept these tests.
Sharing your rear-facing camera on iOS and Android
Customers have the ability to include a camera task when building a mobile test. This task type allows you to easily show customers how you use their product in the real world and provide deeper understanding of your needs when using that product.
If one of these tasks is in a test you accept, you will see the following screener before starting the test:
Note: If you are not comfortable sharing your rear-facing camera and showing your surrounding environment, please do not accept these tests.
Once you pass the screeners, you’ll see a screen asking you to enable camera access for UserTesting. Tap “Enable Camera” and then “Allow” when prompted.* We will only record your environment during the tasks where you choose to share your camera.
When you come across a camera task, you’ll see a “Share camera view” button at the bottom of your screen instead of the standard “Next” button. Tap “Share camera view” to start sharing your rear-facing camera.
Tap the X button to return to the instructions. At this point, you can either move on to the next task if you completed the current one, or share your camera once again by tapping the camera icon.
Proceed through the rest of the test as normal, speaking your thoughts out loud as you go. Thanks for taking the time to learn how to complete a camera task.
*What if I accidentally deny camera access?
If you do not allow UserTesting to access your camera when prompted, you will not be able to participate in these tests. If you deny access, you’ll see the following screen, which will prompt you to grant access once again.
Tapping “Grant Access” will open your settings, where you will need to manually grant camera access to UserTesting.
Please note that if you are unable to share your camera for any reason during the test, please quit or report a problem. If you are unable to share your camera in a test where doing so is required, your video will not be useful for the customer and you will likely receive a low rating and payment cancellation.
